Day 1: South Africa – Amsterdam
Departure from OR Tambo Airport, Johannesburg to Schipol Airport, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Day 2: Amsterdam, Netherlands
Amsterdam is the capital and largest city of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Amsterdam is located in the western province of North Holland on the IJ and Amstel rivers. Although Amsterdam is the official capital, the government is based in The Hague. Amsterdam has a population of more than 800 000 in the city and about
2.3 million in the metropolitan area. Amsterdam is known for its canals and for its tolerance of other cultures. The city’s centuries-old multicultural society enjoys worldwide prestige. Today we visit the Rijksmuseum and the Anne Frank House.
Day 3: Amsterdam – Utrecht
After breakfast we leave for Utrecht where we will spend one night. We visit, among others: Zaanse Schans
on the way to Utrecht, Museum of the University of Utrecht and possibly the Beatrix Theater (not included, but can be requested).
Day 4: Utrecht – Culemborg – Gouda – Delft – Ghent After an early breakfast we leave for Ghent where we spend the next three nights. On the way we visit Culemborg, Gouda and Delft. We visit, among others: Jan van Riebeeck House, Gouda Cheese Market and the Delft porcelain factory. Johan Anthoniszoon (Jan) van Riebeeck was the founder of the first colony in South Africa on behalf of the United East India Company (VOC). Its founding of the Cape of Good Hope grows into the Cape Colony, the Union of South Africa and eventually the Republic of South Africa. Jan van Riebeeck is of cultural and historical significance for South Africa. He is regarded by the Afrikaners as the founder of the Afrikaner people.
Day 5: Ghent – Bruges
After breakfast we leave for Bruges for a full day city tour. The activities include: Chocolate walking tour of Bruges and a visit to the museum for potato chips (fries). Bruges is the capital of the Belgian province of West Flanders with an area of 138.4 square kilometers and about 117 000 inhabitants (2010). The city, which due to the large number of canals is also known as the “Venice of the North”, was in 2000
In 2002, together with the Spanish city of Salamanca, it became the cultural capital of Europe. The afternoon is free to explore Bruges on your own time. After that we travel back to Ghent where we spend the night.
Day 6: Ghent – Brussels
Today we visit Brussels. After a city tour we also visit the Atomium.
The Atomium, together with Manneken Pis and the Great Market Square in Brussels, is one of the city’s most popular
bakens. CNN named it Europe’s most bizarre building. The Atomium was designed by André Waterkeynen and is 102 meters high.
Day 7: Ghent – Longueval – Paris
After breakfast we leave for Paris after stopping at Route de Ginchy. Today’s activities include a visit to Bois Delville – the South African National Memorial. Delvillebos (in English Delville Wood, in French Bois d’Elville) is a small forest near the town of Longueval in the Somme Valley in France. The South African War Memorial and the Delvillebos Memorial Museum in memory of South Africans who took part in two world wars, the war in Korea and the Berlin Airlift, were opened in 1986. The museum is a reduced version of the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town.
Day 8: Paris
After a nice breakfast we leave for the amazing Disneyland Paris for a full day trip full of fun!
Day 9: Paris – Johannesburg
Today we explore Paris on a guided city tour. The tour ends at the breathtaking Eiffel Tower. There is still time for shopping before we leave for Charles De Gaulle Airport for the flight back to South Africa.
Day 10: Johannesburg Country in South Africa. Welcome home!
